Graceful, elegant and soulful, Ellen Doty is a Calgary-based vocalist who beautifully intertwines her jazz roots with folk and pop elements. With a band featuring Ryan Davidson on guitar, Jon May on drums, Justin Kudding on bass, and award-winning saxophonist Eli Bennett, Ellen Doty takes listeners on an unforgettable musical journey.
2014 was a huge success for Ellen as she released her much-anticipated first full album ?”Gold? in May” which broke the top ten on several jazz charts in Canada. Doty is currently working on her sophomore album, set to be released in late 2017.
Doty and Eli Bennett first collaborated in the fall of 2015 as part of an Alberta tour and have been performing together regularly ever since. Bennett’s saxophone tone blends beautifully with Doty’s voice as they explore harmonizing together as two voices. Winner of thirty-five international awards and four-time Leo-nominated film composer, Eli Bennett has performed twice at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles and shared the stage with the likes of Oscar Peterson, Hank Jones, Barry Harris, Terence Blanchard, and Dave Holland.
“…[I]t feels like an immediate, handmade, warm-hearted statement, one that uses the personal touch to reveal all sides of a performer who seems ready for her true Canadian coming out, with a voice that honeycoats every word it sings in her easy, sweet’n’sunny crossover jazz-pop”. – Mike Bell, Calgary Herald, Gold Album Review
